Prescription Charges and Help with Costs

You may need to pay for NHS prescriptions unless you qualify for free prescriptions or another exemption.

If you regularly need medication, a Prescription Prepayment Certificate (PPC) may help you save money.

Prescription Charges

In England, the current charges are:

• Prescription item: £9.90
• 3-month PPC: £32.05
• 12-month PPC: £114.50

If you need 4 or more prescription items in 3 months, or more than 15 items in 12 months, a PPC may be the cheaper option.

Dressing Prescriptions

If you attend the surgery for dressings and are not exempt from prescription charges, you will need to pay the normal prescription charge for any dressings prescribed.

Prescription Charge Exemptions

Some patients can receive free NHS prescriptions. If you think you may be eligible, please check the NHS guidance on prescription charge exemptions.
