Temporary Patients

If you become ill while away from home, or you are not currently registered with a GP and need urgent medical care, you can receive emergency treatment from a local GP practice for up to 14 days.

If you need care for longer, you may be able to register as a temporary patient for up to 3 months. This allows you to receive care from a local practice while remaining registered with your usual GP.

To register as a temporary patient, contact the GP practice you would like to use.

Please note:

• GP practices do not have to accept temporary registrations.
• They must still provide any necessary emergency treatment.
• You cannot register as a temporary patient at a practice in the same area where you are already registered with a GP.
