If you feel you need to see a GP today the practice will ensure that you are able to discuss your concerns with a clinician today. 

Please remember receptionists are here to help you, they will try to ascertain the urgency of your request and therefore will need a brief description of your problem to enable them to direct you appropriately.

Cancellations

If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to offer the appointment to someone else.  The practice has wasted appointments on a daily basis.

How you can help us manage appointment capacity, waiting times and avoid being held in  telephone queues?

• Please book your follow-up appointments as soon as you know you will need one, so you can get a time that best suits you.  Don’t leave it until the week before you need it.
• Please avoid peak times (8.00am – 9.00am) to telephone for routine appointments.
• Do you know you can book appointments up to 6 weeks in advance?
• Try and avoid ringing at 8.00am for appointments unless absolutely necessary; same day appointments should be for patients where symptoms will not wait until the next day, these will be triaged by the duty doctor ‘on call’ all day,  a different doctor will be ‘on call’ each day, enabling easier access for patients that need urgent/emergency assessments. The GP will assess your problem via a telephone consultation first and, if required, will then invite you to the surgery for a face-to-face appointment.
• Do you know you can register for online services? Please ask at reception for details. Once registered you will be given a simple password and be able to log on to enable you to:
  • book appointments with your GP
  • request prescriptions
  • view your medical summary
• Consultations are by appointment and can be made in person at reception, over the telephone or online (once registered for online services) via the link below .

Book an Appointment – SystmOnline

• You can also book appointments and order repeat prescriptions on your mobile phone. Patient access is now available to download as an App to your smartphone.  This will enable you to book appointments and order repeat prescriptions providing you have an internet connection and have registered for online services. Please use the mobile app tab provided above.
• If your appointment does not need a face to face consultation we now offer GP telephone consultations.
• Please note an appointment is for one person only and will generally cover one problem at a time. For the doctors to endeavour to keep surgeries running on time it may be necessary to book an additional appointment if more than one problem needs to be discussed or you can request a double appointment.

For routine consultations we will endeavour to offer patients an appointment within 2 working days of the request. However please help the practice to achieve this by following the advice above.

The practice aims to answer all calls quickly and efficiently as possible and by following the simple advice above will leave the telephone lines free for urgent cases.

Please note that all Doctors do not work every day of the week. Therefore if you ask for a same day appointment we may not be able to offer you your doctor of choice. However we appreciate patients wanting continuity and have therefore added our doctors normal working pattern to our website.  Please use the link below.

Practice Nurses

In a number of cases it might be worth considering an appointment with a practice nurse rather than a doctor. Practice nurses are qualified to deal with many ailments and you may be seen more quickly.

Home Visits:

Home visits facility are available to housebound patients or those too unwell to come to the surgery (these visits will be triaged by a clinician before being confirmed). If you are requesting a Home Visit, we ask you to contact the surgery before 11:00am.

Chaperones

Please remember that chaperones are available for the following circumstances: during all intimate or personal examinations of the patient (either male or female) or where the nature of the consultation poses a risk of misunderstanding. Please ask at reception if you would like a chaperone

Text Messages

If you provide the surgery with your mobile telephone number we will imply that you consent to receiving text messages for appointment reminders and health campaigns.  Should you wish to opt out of receiving these messages you can text back to the surgery the word “STOP” to 07800 000 199.  By doing this you will no longer receive messages from the surgery including appointment reminders.
